Caring For My Child’s Baby Teeth

It’s never too early to be concerned about your baby’s oral health! Even before your child has any teeth, it is a good idea to clean your baby’s gums with a gentle washcloth every day. Once the first tooth erupts from the gums, the tooth (and subsequent teeth) should be cleaned with a soft toothbrush made for a baby.

Our family dentist serves patients in the Savannah area, and we see patients of all ages! A family dentist is optimal for families with young children because every member of your family can be seen by the same dentist in the same office.

Tips on caring for your child’s baby teeth:

  • Schedule a professional dental visit with a family dentist when your child turns one
  • Get your baby used to teeth brushing by using a soft toothbrush designed for a baby starting at a very young age
  • Don’t ignore the importance of using dental floss once your child has multiple teeth that touch each other

When you schedule your child’s first dental appointment, make sure to ask the dentist for advice on how to best care for your baby’s teeth. Good dental health begins early, so even though your child’s teeth are small and new, they should still be cleaned on a regular basis.
