Porcelain Dental Crowns

Porcelain Dental Crowns

A decayed, root canal treated,  fractured tooth or one with a large filling may need a crown restoration. An aesthetic metal- free, porcelain crown, sometimes referred to as a “cap” may also be used for cosmetic enhancement or in smile makeovers.  Porcelain crowns are especially useful in cases where the tooth cannot be restored through fillings or other types of restorations or when aesthetic changes are desired over the existing tooth. If you’re seeking a natural-looking, long-lasting new smile, porcelain crowns may be ideal.

Having a chipped or broken tooth is painful, and delaying treatment can only make the problem worse. If you live in Garden City, Richmond Hill, or other communities in or around Savannah and you’re seeking a natural-looking, permanent tooth restoration option, porcelain crowns may be ideal.

Savannah family dentist Carla Roher, DMD, recommends porcelain dental crowns for dental patients who:

Our porcelain crowns are made with a specially formulated composite porcelain material. This means your porcelain crowns will easily replicate the look and feel of healthy, natural teeth, perfectly matching the translucency, functionality, durability, and color.

How Porcelain Dental Crowns Work

The procedure for installing your porcelain crown will require minimal visits to our Savannah office. Initially, Dr. Roher removes any decayed or damaged material from the existing tooth. Then, the surface is prepared and a precision mold of your tooth is taken. You will leave with a temporary crown to protect your tooth until the permanent one is placed.

At your final dental crown appointment, Dr. Roher inspects the permanent crown for appearance and proper fit before accurately bonding the crown into place. If necessary, final adjustments are made for shaping and sizing. Once the correct size and shape have been determined, Dr. Roher polishes the restoration for a natural-looking, smooth finish.
