Porcelain Crowns

Learn About Porcelain Crowns

Dental crowns are natural-looking restorations that fit over the entire tooth, providing a durable, long-lasting smile that enhances your natural appearance. These restorations restore the size, strength, and appearance of a tooth that’s suffered damage from severe decay or traumatic injury. Among the types of crown options, Dr. Roher provides porcelain crowns for their extensive benefits for people’s smiles.

How Do Porcelain Crowns Work?

Dental crowns protect teeth from further damage and restore full function to your smile. Crowns are used to help protect cracked or weakened teeth from decay, cover up heavily discolored teeth that can’t be treated with tooth whitening, and can also be used to assist in other treatments such as bridges and implants. They protect your smile substantially by guarding the inner dentin and pulp against outside bacteria and trauma.

When you choose crowns for your treatment, Dr. Roher will prepare and fabricate your dental crowns using advanced 3D imaging technology and then prepare the tooth by performing enamel abrasion on the surface of the selected tooth until it is the proper shape for the new restoration. A temporary restoration will be placed on top of the tooth to protect the inner dentin and pulp while the permanent crown is fabricated. Once the fabrication process is completed, the permanent crown is placed on top of the tooth using bonding adhesives, ensuring a bacteria-killing tight seal.

Why Choose Porcelain Crowns?

Patients can choose from many types of crowns to restore their smile, but porcelain is one of the most popular and well-attested materials. Porcelain is an excellent option for dental crowns because it protects your teeth from decay and damage and resembles their natural color and shine. Porcelain crowns blend easily with the rest of your teeth, offering similar durability and strength to other crown materials, and have less chance of causing allergic reactions for those sensitive to other materials, such as metal and resin.

All of our restorations are custom-designed by Dr. Roher and her dental team to provide you with a completely personalized experience. Porcelain crowns can also be combined with other cosmetic restorations for a complete smile design makeover. These treatments include:

  • Fixed Bridges: Crowns are often paired with bridges to help replace and restore multiple teeth affected by discoloration, decay, and damage.
  • Dental Implant Restorations: Implants and crowns work perfectly together to help patients restore their smiles to health.
  • Tooth Whitening: Tooth whitening sessions can help remove signs of discoloration, giving your smile back its natural glow.
